Tornadoes
A giant Tornado touched down in KY last night. It was on the ground continuously for 200 miles…. Over 70 dead so far and counting.

The destruction it left behind is simply unbelievable….

Apparently over 24 Tornadoes touch down last night throughout the south and middle of the country.

One minute you’re safe in bed asleep, next minute your flying through the air.

What a mess!

Nutsin 10:30 - Yes for fun! :)

Theres a 5% Tornado risk in these areas or around within 25 miles, Columbus, GA...Auburn, AL...Peachtree City, GA...Phenix City, AL...Griffin, GA.
Or a 2% risk Philadelphia, PA...Baltimore, MD...Washington, DC...Atlanta, GA...Montgomery, AL

I haven't looked at the actual model runs!
But theres a slight risk of severe storms anywhere up the East side of the U.S

Generally storms most travel SW to NE so the tornados do as well but they can change direction or pop up in unexpected areas, Theres usually a clear slot where the rotation occurs and a wall cloud, ie a lowering cloud base.

Fuck me Defjam,
You chase those things?

So, more are expected, we have a Tornado watch across middle America going on…..Not a lot you can do with one of them barreling toward you other than hide in the basement, if you have one.

Crazy the number, strength and size of these Tornadoes, they flatten entire towns.

Soldo son! - Oh wow you were in Cali then?
Wicked we were on opposite side of the U.S, That was a crazy day!

Tornado alley is a very loose area, the storm started in Arkansas (The first state I ever chased in) and went across 4 states to Kentucky.
The ferocity of the storm was incredible and the track, just need the official figures to come out but it's probably the longest ever.

Even in Sicily they had 12 tornadoes and waterspouts 3 weeks ago, they were all from the same storm.

DJ.. we was out in CAL when that was all kicking off in 2011... it was mental watching it all unfold on the Weather Channel... riveting viewing...

That drone footage is insane... daft thing is I would never have classed Kentucky as being in tornado Alley

The thing about this supercell is it's track was pretty much predicted by one of the US weather models the HRRR

Re: Tornadoes
It was a crazy day yesterday, not unkown for tornadoes in December but the severity, I know some of the chasers that were chasing yesterday, one had a lucky escape.
There were multiple tornadoes and as you say one for over 200 miles, there were also twin tornadoes on the ground at one point.
Whole warehouses etc flattened with workers still stuck inside.

This doesn't come close to the great outbreak though in 2011 when there were 362 tornadoes in a day, I was actually in New York that day watching it unfold on tv, then the next year I decided to chase.
I've seen around 40 tornadoes myself, had a couple of close calls.
The Royal meteorological society and Natural History museum have just featured one of my tornado photos in a new book.

Re: Tornadoes
I suspect that this has more to do with the increases in population forcing (more) people to live in "Tornado Alley" than would in the past.

There's just less and less "safe" places to live in the world - not because of climate change or anything like that, but simply because there's now nowhere else for people to live.
